Consider seeking an assessment when a finger is becoming harder to straighten, your hand no longer lies flat, or the condition begins interfering with everyday activities. Earlier assessment can help you understand what is changing and discuss appropriate options.
Your palm or fingers cannot rest completely flat on a tabletop without forcing them down.
One or more fingers are being pulled toward the palm and are becoming harder to straighten.
The change interferes with putting on gloves, reaching into a pocket, washing your face, gripping objects or completing work and hobbies.
The bend, cord or loss of movement appears to be increasing over time.
Not every palm lump is Dupuytren’s. Seek an assessment if the diagnosis is unclear, the lump is painful or it changes quickly.
Dupuytren’s can recur. Arrange reassessment if a cord or contracture begins returning after a previous procedure.
A specialist can examine your hand, measure the contracture and explain whether monitoring or treatment is appropriate.
